Trailer: JCVD (?!?)

I might be a little late on this one… But better late than never as they say.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is the quintessential over the hill has-been… While he was insanely successful during the ’90s heyday of over-the-top action movies, his attempt to outlive his welcome resulted in an slew of progressively poorer movies bearing his name.

Unlike his counterparts in the over-the-hill action superstar category (yes you Stephen Seagal…) Jean-Claude Van Damme seems quite aware of the rapid descent not only of his career, but of his life in general.

Which brings us to today’s trailer! JCVD is a comedy about a washed out action superstar returning to his homeland, being mistaken for a bank robber and being held hostage during a bank job.

P.S. I would like to personally apologise to Steven Seagal for that jibe up there. You might be an over-the-hill action superstar, but I am more than certain you could kill me without too much effort, and I respect that.

It’s not very often that we get a cinematic release of a motion picture before North America. This is exactly what we have with Taken, the latest release from writer-producer Luc Besson and director Pierre Morel.  (Seeing as PreviewMonkey.com depends on international opinion to render a verdict this could be quite interesting.)

Taken stars Liam Neeson as Bryan, a former spy (or FBI agent – according to SterKinekor’s Movie Mail) who is forced to call upon his particular skill-set when his daughter (played by Lost alum Maggie Grace) is kidnapped while holidaying in Paris.  Also starring is Famke Janssen (X-Men, Golden Eye) as Bryan’s ex-wife and Xander Berkeley (Gattica, Fracture) as her wealthy new husband.

Let’s see what we can dig up about this little French mystery:

The biggest reason to go and see Bangkok Dangerous is also the biggest reason not to see it: Nicolas Cage.  Audiences have developed very strong opinions about Mr. Cage and his string of hits and misses.

Here he stars as Joe, a hitman-for-hire who goes to Bangkok to assassinate four targets for his backers. There he develops a romantic relationship with a dancer and befriends Kong, his young go-between. It’s this friendship and Joe’s doubts as to the motives behind the assassinations (and whether his targets are deserving of death) that leads Joe to have an attack of conscience regarding what he does.  All the while his employers are plotting to double-cross him to cover their tracks.

So far, so routine. Let’s dig a little deeper to see if this is worth a look:

Preview: The House Bunny

The House Bunny stars Anna Faris (The Hot Chick, Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 and 4) as a Playboy Bunny who is evicted from Hef’s mansion and forced to take up residence with a college sorority house that is in dire straits.

One can only imagine the fun and comedic hi jinks that ensue.  I, for one, plan to do exactly that: imagine it. There is virtually no chance – short of losing an extremely tragic bet – that I would ever subject myself to this kind of torture.

Now that my bias is out of the way, onwards with the full preview:
